She Matters

rescue.1As a person who is passionate about justice there are some days where that heart moves me to action and some days where my heart literally breaks within me.  We live in a world where we are not known for just actions, just motives, or just thoughts. Recently the agency I am serving with Treasures, went on the monthly outreach to women in the sex industry to let them know that they are love, valued and purposed and offering a simple gift bag to each one. As we look into the eyes of the women we meet throughout the night it is clear that God is there with her. God is there in her story, right there in the midst. She may not know it, she may not be able to verbalize it, but He is right there with her and has been there from the very beginning and will be well after we step away.  He knows her story much more than we could ever hope to, in the midst of the pain, the sorrow, the struggle, He has always been there and will always be there.   Sometimes these thoughts are overwhelming, even though we have great love for these women, God loves them much more.  “Surprise us with love at daybreak; then we’ll skip and dance all day long. Make up for the bad times with some good time; we’ve seen enough evil to last a lifetime” Psalm 90:14ff

There are so many layers of factors that contribute to these issues and so many years that have lead up to this time. One thing I know, it will not be ended in one night, it did not start in one night. This is true for the systems that allow women and girls to be exploited as well as for the individual girls themselves that find themselves in this places, some by force, fraud or coercion. One thing we can all be sure of God cares about her. He longs for her to know Him, longs for her to be free of the systems and brokenness that find her in this place. One thing we can all do is something, a kind look or word, a helpful hand a local non-profit working to help others in the city, pray for the women trapped in the sex industry, pray for systems that keep the industry going and pray for law enforcement that have a really hard job and work really hard. They are working often for girls and women who find themselves trapped in a horrible situation.  I am working hard to for justice and freedom of women across many sectors. If nothing else please pray for the women in your cities and neighborhoods, they are all someone’s daughter, neighbor, and friend.
